PC Computer Video Cards

A good video card is required on your desktop (or laptop) computer if you want to play the newest PC & computer games. The difference between a desktop PC and a laptop is that you can put a new video card into your desktop computer, but you can't do this with a laptop. If you want to play games on your laptop, you need to buy a new gaming PC which has the potential to play the newer games.

Here are the requirements you want to look for in order to play the new games coming out:

  • Dual core CPU or higher - quad core is best, at least 2.0 GHz or higher.

  • You want as much RAM as possible - at least 4 GB. To have Windows recognize more then 4 GB, you will have to run a 64 bit operating system.
  • Newer systems and video cards generally have an HDMI output - look for this if you want to hook the PC up to a tv or tv/monitor.
  • Video card should be compatible with Windows 7 - 64 bit as well if you are running a 64 bit operating system.
  • Newest direct X drivers.
  • Get a video card with 1 GB of DDR 2 or 3 memory or higher.
  • Most video cards are PCI X or SLI. If you are running AGP you are really outdated now!

Some of the top video cards on the market are as follows:

  • ATI Radeon
  • Geforce 8400 and up series
  • Geforce GT
  • Sapphire Radeon
